Building my perfect Tennis player

 I love Tennis be it watching or playing. It is the sport that I enjoy so much. I have been watching Tennis since probably 8-9 years. And I think I have developed a pretty good Tennis knowledge. Considering this fact, I will now try to build my perfect Tennis player. I have prepared a catalogue of attributes and I will choose a player whom I think fits perfectly in that category. I will be including the players that I have had the pleasure to watch. I am sorry that I won't be including guys like Samprass, Agassi, Borg, Rod laver, Connors etc because I didn't have the opportunity to watch them. 

So, this will focus on the men's side(Don't play feminist card, please). We could do the women's one later. I will list the attributes and select a player providing a short reason behind my selection. So, let's begin the fun..

1. Forehand

Roger Federer has the most beautiful and tactically precise forehand in my eyes. Just that he hits his forehand with such elegance, it looks so cool. He is an eye pleaser is Roger.

Honorable mention:- Rafa Nadal and del Potro

2. Backhand 

Novak's backhand is amazing. He has a double handed backhand that is equally effective be it down the line or cross court. My favourite is when he is on the run to his left side and then he slides, reaches out and hits a thunderbolt cross court backhand.

Honorable mention:- Roger and Stan Wawrinka 

3. Serve 

I will take the serve of Isner. He is tall, has a good ball toss and serves absolute bombs. Who could forget his 100 plus aces in the match against Mahut at Wimbledon. I like his character too and he is one of the likeable Tennis character.

Honorable mention:- Nick kyrgios, Ivo Karlovic

4. Return

Obviously, it's Novak. This guy can return even good serves with such accuracy and depth that it is beyond my comprehension. His backhand return that lands deep in the baseline is lethal.

Honorable mention:- Again Roger and Sir Andy Murray

5. Drop shot

Roger Federer has the best drop shot for me. Who doesn't remember his amazing drop shot against Berdych at the Miami Open. He just has that natural instinct for these shots.

Honorable mention:- Rafa Nadal 

6. Net game 

Again, I am taking Roger. He doesn't hesitate to come to the net. He can play that typical serve and volley so well. He wins a lot of net points. He is so confident when he comes to the net and who doesn't remember the match point he saved against Zverev at the Shanghai Open.

Honorable mention:- Nick kyrgios and Rafa

7. Volley and overhead

I am taking Rafa on this one. He has a great volley, rarely misses it. I have seen him hitting those overheads over and over, so precise with that shot. Over the years he has evolved his game. He comes to the net hits overhead and volley accurately.

Honorable mention:- Roger Federer 

8. Lob 

Andy Murray has the best lob. He practiced this shot during his early tennis days and he is quite good at it.

8. Movement and court coverage

Novak is like an elastic rubber. He stretches and hits the ball, is omnipresent in the court, has exquisite movement regardless of the surface. If it would have been only clay, I would have taken Rafa but irrespective of the surface Novak has the best movement and court coverage.

Honorable mentions:- Rafa and Danil Medvedev 

 8. Physicality/Athleticism 

Rafa all day long. He is so physical. He has played so many long and physical matches like the 2012 AO final, 2022 AO final. He has been injured so many times in his career but always bounces back which is truly remarkable. He never gives up, fights for every point. He is indeed a great athlete. 

Honorable mention:- Gael Monfils and Novak

9. Mental toughness

Rafa again for me. He has an elite mentality. He has came back from so many career threatening injuries which requires a great mental fortitude. The long matches that extends to 4-5 hours requires mental strength and if you sum up Rafa's carrer he has been in those situation and has stood tall most of the time. His never giving up attitude and love for the game makes him a mental giant.

Honorable mention:- Novak Djokovic

10. Tweeners, underarm seve and those fancy trick shots 

It's obvious, isn't it? Kyrgios has that natural instinct for those shots. He is a fascinating character and he has all the trick shot in his arsenal. 

Honorable mention:- Gael Monfils 

11. Fashion and good in Interviews 

Roger is pure class. He has the fantastic sense of styling his outfit on and off the court. He is filled with elegance. He is good in front of the cameras too, don't forget that.

Honorable mention:- Sir Andy Murray

12. Fan favourite

Roger and Rafa both, I can't split between them. These two guys are probably the two of the most loved Tennis players. I also love them both. What they have done for this sport is incomprehensible.

13. Funny and someone who lights up the crowd

This is probably the easiest one. We all know it's Monfils. He enjoys playing and makes other enjoy too. He is funny too and such a loving character.

14. Good looking

It's Taylor for me. I think he is very charming young guy. 

Honorable mention:- Grigor Dimitrov
